West Lothian College
West Lothian College is an incorporated College of Further Education,
offering vocational and non-vocational courses to adults. It is situated
in the central belt of Scotland, midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The College delivers nationally accredited qualifications from Access to
Higher Level, in Information Technology, Engineering, Care, Business Administration
and Management and Service Industries. The student population comprises
full and part time students, flexible learning students and work-based
learners.
For the past 2 years, West Lothian College has been sub-contracted to deliver
the New Deal Programme for unemployed adults. This is a compulsory government
training programme aimed at enabling long term unemployed, aged 18 – 60
years, back into employment. The programme involves developing and delivering
a range of workshops promoting literacy, numeracy and IT skills, as well as personal
development – motivation, interview skills, citizenship and job search.
The programme also offers specific vocational training, offering individuals
qualifications required to enter employment.
The College delivers nationally recognized qualifications and complies with awarding
body’s quality procedures. At present, the College is researching effective
strategies to maximize use of ICT and E-learning.
