EDE, Economic Education. Grundtvig 1.

The didactic unit Basic Economic Education, EDE, arises as a response to the lack of special treatment within the curriculum of Youth and Adult Education, as well as the lack of didactic materials related to this type of education. We consider that Economic Education is a core need in the education of persons who are usually subject to take decisions of economical nature (pay taxes, buy a home, manage domestic economy, etc.).

This project directly focuses on the increase of youth and adult education quality, in agreement to the education strategies gathered in the Hamburg Declaration of 1997.

The didactic unit is structured in three parts: “Economy and You”, Western Economy” and “Alternatives”. The unit can be adapted to different contexts and can be used in several different ways: as a course about economy, as a study area in the classroom, as a workshop, etc.. The elaboration of the unit was based on the learners’ learning processes. It starts with those topics which are close to the learners’ own environment (Economy and You), then, it continues dealing with Western society aspects (Western Economy) and it finally concludes with different problem-solving proposals related to current economical problems and questions (Alternatives).

The Dictionary is understood as an auxiliary book that gathers all those economy terms and concepts studied and used in the unit. The dictionary has been developed by the participants of the organisations that took part in the project.

The didactic unit EDE is aimed at:
